Trip 5 in Boston——the Massachusetts State House

kiya

Last Friday, we had a chance to visit the Massachusetts State House. The magnificent setting of the state government for over two centuries has become an outstanding museum attracting many visitors every day. The Massachusetts State House is also called the New State House which has a long history of the Massachusetts since colonial times. It is the oldest building on Beacon Hill. Oliver Wendell Holmes called the State House “the hub of the solar system, though time has altered the statement and it is now remembered as “Boston is the hub of the universe”. Today, Boston, not the State House, is called “The Hub”.

We couldn’t wait to reach the destination because the weather was too hot. When I faced the State House, I was deeply attracted by the golden dome which was on the top of the building. It is said the dome was first painted gray before being gilded with gold leaf in 1874. During World War Two, the dome was painted black in order to protect the city from bombing attacks. Luckily, it returned back to golden and shining in the sun.

Of cause, the State House is also a vital place of work for the leadership that guides our state today. When I finished visiting the building, I have observed the Senate and House of Representatives. Let me experience the political charming.
