Trip to MIT
On this Friday, I was organized to go to MIT museum. It was very sunny but not so hot. We went on orange line and transferred to red line and finally arrived at our destination at CENTRAL stop.

I kept going straight about 3 blocks after landing, and then I saw a museum with advanced and modern architectural style. Having got into the building, there was a tour guide giving us speech about the general information about this museum. After that, I went to the second floor and turned life without hesitation because the tour guide had said that the robot exhibition was on your left hand. With unprecedented excitement, I started my trip.

The first thing came into my sight was a robot arm displaying in a glass closed counter. I could see the electronic circuit in its arm very clearly! Hundreds of red chips and thousands of black electronic line fascinated me a lot. It even reminded me of the physical knowledge I learned in my senior high school. Then I walked inside. There were lots of pictures with “magic”. The pictures were all in single planes; however, all of them seemed to have three dimensions which were full of cubic effect. They were created so vivid and elegant that I could not identify them with my eyes!

When I came back my dorm, I searched on line about these magic pictures. Then I got to know that they were relevant with electro-optical effect. I was very good at physics and got to know its deep theory about how to produce such an attractive effect. In the future, I hope that I can be provided opportunity to learn exactly what happened on these pictures.

NBA games

On July 13, my friends and i went to the TD garden to watch the NBA game between Celtics and Lakers. We had our meal very early and went to the TD garden by the green line. When we reached there, there were still many people who wore the coats by Celtics. Although i was in the Boston, i was a fun to the Lakers. The ticket of the match was very expensive, it cost 400 dollar. Because it was the Final game playing TD garden. I bought a ticket with my friends. I was looking forward to the match coming.

During the match it was very exciting, the funs between two teams were very crazy about the game. Because it is the place which in boston, so the funs were all suppose the Celtics. I tried my best to encourage the Lakers and have a good night. I thought i will never forget the game. Although the Celtics beat the Lakers, but it still a good game.

music concert

On Friday, July 9, 2010, we had an enjoyable concert at M. Steinert & Sons. It is our music class’s homework here. This concert was played by three amazing performers: flautist Chelsea Czuchra, cellist Nora Krahl and pianist Barbara Lieurance.
Because of the amazing concert, I just lost in the music for a long time. Ms. Lieurance and her partners played a perfect music which consists of piano, cello and pipe. They focused on playing songs and had a great concert for the audiences. In the concert, I observed that other audiences often waved their hands or heads with the music rhythm and closed their eyes to enjoy the beautiful music. Our classmates are all enthusiastic of the music. They always lost themselves in the melodies. Although we know little about the music style and knowledge, we feel the songs in the concert are all elegant music. We just can say a word in Chinese: the songs only in the heaven.
After the concert, we interviewed the pianist Barbara Lieurance. We have a good time with them and have a good night.

The Black Heritage Trip

In a similar lane, climbed the steep slope of the road. We visited the Black Heritage Trail, which is a path in Boston, Massachusetts, winding through the Beacon Hill neighborhood and sites important in American black history. The weather is very hot, we don't have the strength to visit. My favourite is the Phillips School, it was one of the best schools at that time and it located in the block which black people lived, but it is only accepted white students. It makes me feel very sorry. We visited the region is the highest prices in Boston, located in winding fluctuant streets, here seem a bit cold and cheerless, probably because of the weather was too hot.

Although the whole trip is very tired, but was very meaningful.

the trip to Harvard University

The field trip was my frist time visiting Harvard University. Harvard University is one of the earliest private university graduate, in order to cultivate and mainly engaged in scientific research of universities.

Harvard University, the school is a leading bodies at Harvard University board, another is the general supervision committee. Relevant education policies and institutions by the principal, the important affairs department director and discuss to the board of directors. Each graduate school at Harvard University and director of the department appointed by the principal.

Harvard University campus is very beautiful, have big trees. Campus building is very special, belong to that old building. The most favourite of the campus is jetted stone, in many a fountain of water jetted stone, very cool and refreshing. We also took a lot of photos in there.

I was bad lucky for this weekend. Because of my careless, I poured some water into my keyboard. My computer was not at all. I was very worried for my essay and some other homework in my computer. I decide to fix it right now. At first, i run to the Chinatown. I found a shop which sells computer. I came into the shop and asked for repairing. But the host said he had no idea to fix the computer like this. He told me to go to the Best buy to fix it. But the best buy was far from here, and i must take the green line. Then i had to go there with my best wishes. I went to the shop which have Best buy. Fortunitily, it can fix my computer. But it needed two weeks to fix it, i lost my heart and just buy a new computer in the shop. What a bad lucky day!

the trip to Harvard University

The field trip on last Friday was my second time visiting Harvard University. Since the last visit was so rushed and incomplete. This another chance delighted me at the beginning. We took about twenty minutes to get Harvard. Harvard University is located in Cambridge. The main campus is centered on Harvard Yard in central Cambridge and extends into the surrounding Harvard Square neighborhood. The weather was hot, and air was moist. It is seems like that day was a good day for going out. However, this kind of opportunity which visits one of the best university in the world is precious. Therefore, I encouraged myself to finish it. Luckily, this time we had a tour guide who lead us to walk around the campus and introduced those famous sights and the history and the stories of them. One of the most interesting sights is the statue of John Harvard whose one of his feet is blond. It is said that by touching the foot, people will have good luck. A misunderstanding about John Harvard is many people think he was the founder of Harvard. In fact, he is just an important figure in the history of Haward University. As most buildings on campus were built at least decades and some were even built hundreds years ago, the Engineering and Science Department is exceptionally conspicuous for it's modern architecture. It sent me and probably many other tourists that Harvard University is preserving it's particular tradition and characteristic through past hundreds of years and at the same time, it is also a place in which inspiration and innovation take place.

Trip to Harvard

This week, we went to the Harvard University. This university is so great that almost every student knows it. When I was in China, I dreamed of studying in this university. This trip gave me a chance to see how the Harvard really looks like. My first impression of Harvard was that it is so ancient. The building looks so old and full of history. All the buildings are so old including the building where students live. I saw the Harvard library, it is a little bit different from what I saw in the picture before. It is huge and beautiful, however we are unable to go inside to have a visit because it is only available to Harvard students. What a pity. Then we saw a church in the Harvard university, where the graduate ceremony usually hold. It is so beautiful. All the windows are colorful and there a re some pictures on it. That impressed me a lot. This trip was interesting, I got a chance to be famillar with the greatest university in the world. I like this trip.

Harvard University

Last Friday, I visited Harvard University which is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.

Harvard University is located in Cambridge. The main campus is centered on Harvard Yard in central Cambridge and extends into the surrounding Harvard Square neighborhood. All of the schools of Harvard University are very famous. Many famous people graduated from Harvard including some Chinese preeminent writers, educators and revolutionists. Furthermore, eight presidents of the United States were graduates of Harvard.

When I walked on campus of Harvard University, old and classical buildings attracted me. There was a strong learning atmosphere on campus. The most impressive place to me was the Harvard University Library. The building of Harvard University Library was huge and grand. It was the fifth largest collection in the world. I hope that I can have another chance to go into later. Moreover, I visited the bronze sculpture of John Harvard. John Harvard was an English pastor and first benefactor of the college that was named Harvard College in his honor. And I touched his shoes. It is said that touching his shoes would bring good luck in learning.

When I was a little girl, I had heard Harvard University. It was the first foreign university that I heard. Harvard University is influential to the United States and the whole world. Although it was very hot last Friday, I really enjoyed the trip.

trip7-Harvard University

Harvard University is really a famous university around the world. I know the name when almost 10 years ago, though I do not know why it is so well-known.

Harvard was built in 1636. Americans wanted to establish institution of high learning, just be like Cambridge. Goverment allocate 4000000 dollars funds to start building. So its first name is Cambridge. In 1639, it has own name called Harvard.a Almost pioneers in America Civil War graduated from this school, and it trained 8 American president, 40 owners of Nobel Prize and 30 owners of Pulitzer. I was quite amazed its success of training students.

In2008, the MBA college of Harvard is the best one in the world! There is a statue of John Havard, who is the boss of early Havard University, he donate most money to this school. Crimso is the representive of Havard's color, and also the color of sports uniform and the name of newspaper, the Harvard Crimso.

When i walked in the university, i can the trees there is so tall. Even it was a sunny day, i can hide myself in shadow because of these tall trees. And there are so many tourists just like me , travel around the universty. We can see that Harvard is really famous, it attracts people from different places to come here. i think every students in Harvard is pround of their schools.

The seventh week—the Harvard University

kiya
Last Friday, we went to the Harvard University. This is my first time to Harvard, but Harvard has always been a dream for me. So I felt excited before the trip. What I want to say is that the weather is extraordinarily hot, but I still really enjoyed the time I visited in this beautiful campus.
My friend told me, if you touch the foot of John Harvard who donated his library and books to Harvard College, you will be admitted by Harvard one day. I can’t wait to feel this precious time, not only because I want to take a picture with this bronze statue, but also I want to stop in this period I spent my time with Mr. Harvard because it means a lot to me.
Harvard University, which is the first corporation chartered in the United States and oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. I was so impressed by the big library in Harvard University, which I think is a good place to study, it’s a really splendid place. All that the main building in this campus is made of red brick, that’s made me felt warm.

Trip to Harvard

The second time for me to visit Harvard is have less mysterious but get more information by the helpful guide in the campus. In the summer, Harvard Square more seems like a place all the visitor gathered place. Once going to this honored school, "Red Cliff" is can be a best description to me. Most of the roof is red color, the building can be modified as historical but solemn. I am quiet not sure how could I make the "solemn" explanation. It is just because the building themselves appearance or just because them in Harvard? Whatever, Harvard is really cannot consider a university. Still, it is a university indeed. Contrary isn't it. I don't want to make a Harvard a myth. People respect this university have many reason, such as No.1 university around the world, or a lots of celebrities are born from this place. But I think the university is important indeed, but we also should make a clear idea which is that individual effort definitely contribute more in the success road.
Back to the trip , the guide make a detail explanation nearly every aspects of the Harvard. The history of Harvard can be date back from colonial time. The John Harvard is one of the most important person in the Harvard history but not the founder of Harvard. A lots of people make a misunderstanding through the share of name reason. We also going to a church which is never use as a function of church originally. It is the for the graduation ceremony and important speech place for some a momentous occasion. The medical school seems like in another side of campus, which indirectly reflect the size of Harvard. We also know about the living condition will improve according to the year a student of a student studying in there. So, in general, sophomores' condition is better than freshman.
The experience in the Harvard is unforgettable for most of us, to keep the believes in hearts is more important for everyone. Admiration is useless to solve the problem. keep moving, for everybody.

Visit Harvard University

We have visited Harvard University last Friday. Harvard University (officially The President and Fellows of Harvard College) is a private university located in Cambrige, Massachusetts, and a member of the Ivy League. Established in 1636 by the colonial Massachusetts legislature, Harvard is the first corporation chartered in the United States and oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.
The university currently comprises ten separate academic units. Harvard has the largest financial endowment of any school in the world, standing at $26 billion as of September 2009. Harvard is consistently ranked as a leading academic institution in the world by numerous media and academic rankings.
Study in Harvard University is one of my dream. The students and professors all are the highest level in the world.

We became a sightseer last Friday, and saw the sublime campus of Harvard University. It was a same boiling weather as before, but it has not influenced the feeling of us in terms of facing the famous bronze statue, which has been built in 1884 to present the lifelike John Harvard in order to commemorate him. Mr. Harvard is not the founder of this University as our think, but he is a donator who promoted laying a foundation in 1636. However, this University had been named the Cambridge College in its original period. Harvard is the first corporation chartered in the United States and oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, which located in the Cambridge Avenue near by the Chares River. The University of Harvard currently is the highest institution in academic of the world. I was impressed by this beautiful Campus deeply, as well as the students in there are friendly to the tourists.

Harvard Square

We visited Harvard Square on last Friday. I was so happy to visited there.

Harvard is one of the most famous university in the world. It was bulit in 1636. It is older than the United State, and has a long history. The wall in Harvard is made in red brick. It is one of the characteristic of Harvard. In the square, I can feel the clam and ancient atmosphere. In addition, the campus is full of reading and studying atmosphere.

When we entered in the campus, we saw the statue of Harvard. Because there are three lies about the statue, so, it has another name which is "Statue of the Three Lies". The first lie is the statue is not Harvard himself. It is a Harvard student. The second is that Harvard is a donator not a founder. The third lie is that Harvard was built in 1636 not 1638. That is interesting.

We saw the biggest library in Harvard. I was amazing about that. It is grand and splendid. I think that must a very good place for study. It was a pity that I cannot enter there for visiting. We also find the most unusual Freshmen dormitory in Harvard. It is one of the oldest dormitory in Harvard. Moreover, the headmaster's office and the VIP room are in the first and second floor. The third and fourth floor are student dormitory. This dormotory is the exclusively dormitory for honoured guest to visit. So, who live in there are the best and the most representative students.

Harvard is my favorite university. I'm very happy about this trip.

Havard University

Harvard University, which celebrated its 350th anniversary in 1986, is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States.
this weekend, we went to Harvard University. it is very good university. at the beganing, we take orange line and green line to arrive in Harvard street. when we into the school, we can find a statue in front if building. it is first president of Harvard university in 1636. he is a great president in the world. he set up a one of best collage.
there are many kind of tourist in collage. not only we can share the fashion in Harvard University, also we can take more attention to the beautiful building and long history.

Last Friday,we went to the Harvard University, Although very hot day, but I am interested in it. trip to the Harvard

Last Friday, we have a trip to the Harvard. As we know, Harvard is a most famous university in the world. It is built in 1636 and the earliest private university in the USA. With a rich history and a dedication to the pursuit of excellence, Harvard University offers unique learning experiences across a broad spectrum of academic and social environments. When I was a children, I dream to go to the Harvard or have a chance to see Harvard. I was looking forward to the Harvard University before the trip.
When i come to the door of the University, it is very beautiful. It looked very old and represent the education culture in America. In the campus, there are a large number of old famous places. Although I forget the name of this, I have a good impression in the buildings. The most attracts me is that a fourtain. It is very beautiful. Many children play in the fourtain. On the campus, many travelers are play in the school.
I hear that one of the biggest library in Harvard, but it not allowed us to enter. I took a lot of photos in the school and i will never forgot the trip forever.

Harvard University

Last Friday, we went to Harvard University. This is the second time I went there. Because of the “tour guide”, I went to many places that I didn’t be the first time.

Before I went there, the most attractive place for me is the dining hall. Because last year, my brother took a summer course at Harvard University, he told me that its dining hall especially for freshman is very good not only for its food provided but also for the architectural style. I was eager to see how good it is and when I first saw the architecture, I thought it is the dining hall and fortunately I was right.

Another building that attracts me is the Widener Library. It is the primary building of Harvard University. According to the “tour guide”, under the terms of the Widener family donation, the exterior of the library should never be altered. So as the number of books kept on increasing and the space was limited, Harvard finally decided to build more space underground. This shows that though the providing things are limited, as long as we want to figure the problem out, there certainly are ways waiting for us to explore.

Harvard University

This time, we are lucky enough to visit the best school all over the world, Harvard University. That day was hot, but accompanied by a beautiful Harvard student, we might feel a little bit better.

Harvard University can be a wonderful school with many legends, the one where the biggest number of billionaires studied here and a great many those celebrities live who have made a huge effect on history of human.

The campus is not big, but full of knowledge. Many students lie on the chair reading their books. Due to the great number of tourists year by year, the school has to prohibit the travelers to tread the grasses.

It is John Harvard who donated his library and books to Harvard College, in this way, the school is named by his name, but he is not the founder of this school. The interesting thing is that, it is generally believed that his brilliant left foot will bring fortune and luck to those who have touched it. That's amazing! By the way, i hope that the statue of John Harvard will bring more luck to students like us.

Later, we visit the very famous library. Because we are not allowed to go inside, we can not have a deep understanding of this great library around the world. In conclusion, this trip is amazing and exciting. We have a precious opportunity to get close to the world's most famous university and have a general idea of it.

Harvard University

This is my second trip to Harvard, and it seems a little different. I don't know whether it is the hot weather or something else makes my heart beat faster.

Last time I went to Harvard, I walked around the campus, and saw many buildings such as the Science Center, the Memorial Hall and the area of the famous law school. I am not excited at that time. However, I visited Harvard with awe because this time I noticed that it is the most famous university in the world which is the dream of millions of students. I just listened to every word of the tour guide without exploring more by myself. Maybe because we learned Walker Percy's "The loss of the Creature" in college writing class this week, I really feel that I am in the "symbolic complex" which blocks students' sovereignty.

However, I am not saying that this trip is not useful. I know a lot of history through the introduction of the Harvard student. I just feel that I am idolizing the university, and it may block me from seeing the real university. I suppose that students who study in Harvard will have different feelings toward the university. They feel in the way that we perceive our familiar elementary school, and high school. I hope that I can someday find something new and belong to our own in the famous university.

Harvard University

This Friday, I went to the most distinguished university in the world-----Harvard University. Its fame is so worldwide and renowned that I have heard of it since I was born. When I was in china, I kept thinking about visiting Harvard University, today my dream come true.

Even if the temperature has reached 92 degree, I was carrying great hope and expectation to visit this university. The first thing which is so impressive for me is its construction style and appearance. The majority of buildings are full of ancient and grievous feelings. They are covered by dark red bricks with elegant genre. Here, I found an exception, it is Science Hall. I suppose that it is because development of science demands development of technology that Harvard University built this Hall in a very modern and contemporary way.

Besides, it was really fortunate for me to have a guide who gave us speech about the information of Harvard. He led us to go to some typical and symbolistic place and started to introduce the relevant information. Harvard University is a private university located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a member of the Ivy League. Established in 1636 by the colonial Massachusetts legislature, Harvard is the first corporation chartered in the United States and oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. This university currently comprises ten separate academic units. Harvard has the largest financial endowment of any school in the world, standing at $26 billion as of September 2009. Harvard is consistently ranked as a leading academic institution in the world by numerous media and academic rankings.

He also introduced the law school. Having read lots of book about American history, I also know that there are many successful presidents who graduated from law school in Harvard University. Nowadays, the current president Barack Hussein Obama also graduated from it.

The Harvard University is too big to afford enough time for us to finish visiting; I really look forward to another chance to finish this unforgettable trip.

Harvard University

Leina

This is my second time to visit Harvard, the first place I visited in my first week of arrival. It seems familiar, the tour guide’s introduction and explanation convey more information that I did not know in the past. I like her presentation, natural and fluent. However, let me talk about Harvard in my own view, I do not want to just repeat or paraphrase the descriptions said by the tour guide or the Internet.

Harvard University, the oldest university in the U.S., is even older this country itself. It was founded in the early colonial time. It is one of the most attractive places in Boston, an education institution where talented people gather together. Some students study in Harvard because of family background, but as Harvard is a rarely need-blind university to all applicants, no matter whether Americans or international students, financial predicament is not a reason for not being accepted. It is true that total cost for one year in most universities in Boston exceeds $50,000; however, only in Harvard and MIT, a generous financial package is available to all accepted students. It is these universities that prove the truth—all who are desire to succeed and willing to work hard deserve a chance to get a good education. Not every dreamer can realize their dreams, but at least, they can have a try.

The architecture in Harvard is very different from that in Northeastern University. Harvard is classic while NEU is modern. I think it may be more comfortable to live in NEU. Although it is not very new, the law school in Harvard impressed me, which is the best law school in the United States; only eloquent people can have a place there, in the spectacular building with glory for over hundreds of years. Be eloquent, it is not easy for a native speaker, not to mention others.

After all, Harvard is a university in essence; I do not want to mystify it. Becoming a Harvard student does not ensure a bright future, but when one person does his best to explore a way for himself; he is not intended to be a student of a famous university, but to be the master of his fate and to prove his own values of existence.

Black Heritage Hall

This Friday, we went to Black Heritage Hall which is full of ancient and a little bit mysterious ambience and atmosphere. I feel honorable to be offered an opportunity to introduce one important site on this trail-----John J. Smith House.

The owner of John J. Smith House was born free in Richmond, Virginia, on November 2, 1820. He moved to Boston at the age of twenty-eight. He firstly became a barber and set up a shop on the corner of Howard and Bulfinch Streets. His shop was a center for abolitionist activity and a rendezvous point for fugitive slaves. During the Civil War, Smith stationed himself in Washington, D.C., as a recruiting officer for the all-black 5th Cavalry. After the war, Smith was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1868, 1869 and 1872. In 1878, the year he moved to this house, he was appointed to the Boston Common Council. John J. Smith lived at 86 Pinckney Street until 1893. He died on November 4, 1906.

When I came to the John J. Smith House, I found out that it was covered by red bricks and tiles. Even though it has more than one hundred ages, it is still seemingly fresh and new which may be contributed by the paint. The stylof house is quite different with the local building. It resembles European establishment. There are also many trees that grow surrounding the building which make it have more sense of classicality and tradition.

Besides, I also went to other sites like George Middleton House, The Phillips School and Charles Street Meeting House and so on. In effect, there are totally fourteen sites, however, by the virtue of hot weather and absence of time, we drew to an end in advance. It was a great pity. I would go on this trail and finish the rest if I were offered such a chance in the future.

The Black Heritage Trail

I regret not eating breakfast on that day because the weather was so hot that I got tired and lost strength to walk. Why the weather could not be better?
We are told that only rich people can live on the beacon hill and we saw some beautiful sports cars. However, I could not see the rooms inside these buildings and I wondered what they will be like to cost such amount of money.
During this trip, Tim and I were in charge of the introduction of the Phillips School. It reminded me of the schools in ancient China. The difference is that the discrimination is not between white and black people but between men and women. Women were not allowed to study in school a long time ago and fortunately they have the rights now. The world is changing and our life becomes better and better.

Black Heritage Trail

Last Friday, we visited Black Heritage. It is an important place in American black history.
We started from Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial Beacon where Helen and I did a presentation. This is a high-relief bronze memorial to Colonel Shaw and the 54th Regiment. The 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry was the first black regiment to be recruited in the North during civil war. And Robert Gould Shaw was a white offer. With his leading, the 54th Regiment was famous for the assault on Fort Wagner. This was a horrifying war because Colonel Shaw and a lot of soldiers of the 54th Regiment were killed. Colonel Shaw and his soldiers showed great militant bonds of friendship. All of them won the respect of all Americans.
Furthermore, we visited other meaningful places in Black Heritage Trail, including African Meeting House, Abiel Smith School and Charles Street Meeting House… All of them recorded the American black history and made me learn a lot. Massachusetts was the first U.S. state of declaring slavery illegal. Black Heritage embodies the process of American black’s status change.
America is a multi-ethnic country. African Americana take a very important part in America. Nowadays, they have equal status as other white people. But it is not easy because many people devoted their lifetimes in revolution of radical equality. I really enjoy the meaningful trail because it makes me better learn American black history.

Black Heritage Trail

Last Friday afternoon, we visited the Black Heritage Trail. This trail told us many things about black people's history.
We wallked in the street, tasting the American black people's tradition. This street is brimming with character and historical views. There are yellow gas lamp on both sides of the way. The houses in there are made by red brick. The street is not wide, but it gives us another feeling. Unlike downtown, you cannot feel busy city life in there, but you can feel peace and tranquility. Many dweller plant flowers in front of the house. Fragrance diffuses thourgh the air, make the street more profuse and amazing. When I walked in this street, I think lots of things about the history. In addition, there are historical sites in there, such as the earliest church of black people, the first black people's public school, and so on.

Simth Court Residence give me a deep impression. These residence are built in the different age. In 1880s, many immigrants came to Boston. Demand of cheaper house was increasing, developers tore down the old small brick house, and build the inexpensive "walks-up"house. The residence are not very tall, but it is classical and beautiful. The gray brick house is the shortest house in the Smith Court Residence, but it is as beautiful as other house.
It is a good trip. The bulding in there surprised me. It is amazing.

The sixth month trip-- Black Heritage Trail

kiya

We got the Black Heritage Trail on last Friday, which has been the highest price for living location today. Black Heritage Trail has a long history with the black, over time, it become a formal living place for Boston people.

The first impression of this trail is that the boiling weather. All of us felt too hot to walk any more. However, our professor was still full of enthusiasm. I admired her, only to follow with her. Finally, we completed our trail through extremely effort and difficult. A proud feeling welled up from my heart.

There are 14 places we have seen in this Black Heritage Trail, all the places are nice and historical, but the most attractive one is the African Meeting House, which is on Beacon Hill. It was built in 1806 in what once was the heart of Boston’s 19th Century African American Community. Today, this place has changed to its function; it used to organize the showcase of black community. Also, this house was the host to giants in the Abolitionist Movement who were responsible for monumental historical events.

It was really a nice trip which let me know more about Boston although it was really hard and tired.

Two trips I had last week

Last Friday, we went to the Black Heritage Trail. It was hot but we kept on walking and tried to understand the significance of those houses.
The whole trip is around the Beacon Hill in Boston. It is the place that many famous places located in. And now Beacon Hill is regarded as one of the most desirable and expensive neighborhoods in Boston (Wikipedia). I presented John Coburn House. John Coburn was co-funder and captain of the Massasoit Guards, a black military company.
Also, last Sunday, I went to the Museum of Science. It shows us the exploring of human body, nature which includes animals and plants, scientific machines, environment in Mexico, and changes of the earth.
Especially, I saw many different kinds of bird specimen. They are lively and cute, which made me feel that they are alive and want to fly away.
It is a pity that I cannot see the 3D film which is one of the famous parts of the museum because of the ticket.

Black Heritage Trail

Last Friday, we went to the Black Heritage Trail. The places we visited are all around the Beacon Hill near the Parker Street. It was a hot day and the trip has a long way to go. So everyone felt tired after the trip. However, the trip was helpful. We saw many places and old buildings. We learned lots of history of Boston through this trip. For example, the Phillips School was one of the best schools at that time. It was located in the block which black people lived, but this school only accepted white students. As a result, black student had to go to another school that far from where they lived. Finally, the rule of this school changed, black students can also go to study at that school. We also visited some house which used to live some famous politicians and now these houses still have people live in. This surprised me a lot. This trip was interesting, it is a pity that it was too hot. I hope the trip next week could be a more interesting and weather could be cooler.

Black Heritage Trail

Last Friday, we visited the Black Heritage Trail, which is a path in Boston, Massachusetts, winding through the Beacon Hill neighborhood and sites important in American black history. In 1783, Massachusetts became the first U.S. state to declare slavery illegal — mostly out of gratitude for black participation in the Revolutionary War . Subsequently, a sizable community of free blacks and escaped slaves developed in Boston, settling on the north face of Beacon Hill, and in the North End. Boston was long considered a desirable destination for southern black slaves escaping slavery via the Underground Railroad. Though the trip was very hot and tired, but we still made a very serious presentation.

Black Heritage Trail

Last week, we have a black heritage trail on Friday. It is a long trip, and last Friday is very hot, when we end the trip, we all feel very tired, all of us are sweat. We start from the State House of Boston, then we begin our trip. The most impressive site of the trip is Charles Street Meeting House, because my presentation is talk about this site. The Charles Street Meeting House was built in 1807 by the white Third Baptist Church of Boston. After the civil war, the black population has increased, then the largest chrches buy this building, it was the last black institution to leave in Beacon Hill. After we introduced the site, we still visited some other site and listen some good presentation about other site.
Although this trip is very tired and hot, but we still enjoyed with the trail, I expect our trip on this week.

The Black Heritage Trail

This week, we had a another long trip in another hot day. Although the Beacon Hill is relatively a silent in a shade behind the Boston Common, it still need patience to finish the whole trip completely. Fortunately, I held out until the last. The pattern of The Black Heritage Trail is similar to the Freedom trail, but people on this way maybe have leaden feet than the trail to another Freedom trail. The purpose of this trip is show us have the African American fight for their believes and freedom. In the early year of the American history, the segregation between the black and white is a most critical issue to affect on civil rights process of The United States. The black have overcame many barriers to reach the final goal. The spirit of the never give up is deserve us to study.
Back to the trip, we went through many houses and places which could be consider as the important relics for the history of the black people. It is all have their own story and memory. I and Jack got the final destination called the African meeting house, which is a really important place for the leader delivered their speech and gathered people meet together as a community. It is the "heart" in that time. In fact, during the trip , there may not have as many as big buildings or statues than the Freedom trail. The influence to me is more impressive. Because I am really respect the spirit from the black and it can lead these kind of people never walk alone.

Black Heritage

This week, I have visited the Baken Hill located in downtown where the housing price leads the highest among whole Boston. Baken Hill is not only a famous for it's price but also well-known for the historical and cultural background set behind. During about three hours of visiting, we have completed a trail called black heritage which reflects much early African American culture and history.
I have learned that before he civil movement in 1950s, African American were segregated with other races especially restricted to interact with white people. They were provided with lower standard of living, unfair position in employment, inferior education facility and etc. However, living with those inferior environment, African American didn't go down. instead, they developed their own lives in almost every area. Many renowned African American were produced in those days and they did their best to contribute their community on literacy, music , economy, civil rights. Those people and spirit form the heritage of African American.
I really enjoy the trip and the opportunity that I have given a presentation on a famous distinguished church. I can't wait to my next field trip.

We visited the Black Heritage Trail last Friday, which is a walking tour that explores the history of Boston's 19th century African American community. What I want to say is that the boiling weather we have in that day, but it doesn’t influenced our attitude of this tail. The place I most interested in this trail is the Abiel Smith School, which had been settled in 1835. It is named for Abiel Smith, a white philanthropist who left money in his will to the city of Boston for the education of black children. Thomas Dalton was elected president in 1834 of the Infant School Association created to support the new Abiel Smith School for colored children built on Belknap Street. This school was the first public school for black people.

We were walking around the Black Heritage Trail this week. There is a special house where John Kerry lived. The way is long but exciting, and we had seen many old buildings with a very long history. This picture does not exactly show
where we began our trip; however, it is a mark recording the wonderful trip we had suffered. There is a man at site four i should mention. John J. Smith House was born on November 2, 1820. He moved to Boston at the age of twenty-eight. After the civil war, Smith was elected as the representatives of the Massachusetts House. Then he moved into this house until he died.

It is the school named Abiel Smith that had offered education to millions of black people. Fortunately enough, the local government did not recognize that this school allow black children to study here, and in this way, most of the black children get the degree which other white school refused to provide. Moreover, this school also received about half of the amount of funding that most of other white schools received. All of these happened because of the overlook of the government and racists.

Hence, it helped many black people get a better understanding and education which will lead their way further in the future. This is very hard to see at that time due to the supervision of the black people and white schools. It developed and made it.

It is generally believed that the places where we went last Friday could be the most expensive areas in Boston. Each house at least is worthy more than millions of thousands of dollars which is hard for a middle-class to afford by general approach. John Kerry's house is worthy six million dollars, a lot of money! In this way, we can get closer to what the source of the American culture is.

trip6-Black Heritage Trail

This week is Black Heritage Trail, which strats in front of the Massachusetts State House. It was in Beacon Hill and showed the history of the blacks who in early America. Many early blacks live in Beacon Hill , so there are 14 remains in this route. Now there is a residential area.
When i walked on the street, I found the streets are tiny, and surroued by trees. I like the residential house ,the have different colorful walls. The doors of every house is different colors, and some have flowers. I hope one day that I can live in this tile-roofed house, and i can decoret my own house.

Many remains are some famous people's house. For example, the Hyden House.Hyden was a african American leader, public party worker. He was slaver when he was young. But he finance his own escape. Finally he became a leader who help early balcks in USA.

Although it was a meaningful trip, i felt so teird. Because of the high tempeture. The weather in Boston is so hot, and we walked a long time. After the trip I went back to dometory and had a rest. I hope the weather can be cool next week !

Black Heritage Trail

Leina
It was such a boiling hot day when we took the trip-- exploring African American Heritage Trail. The trail is located in Beacon Hill, which is now a rich neighborhood. I have to admit that appreciating those beautiful houses and villas added many pleasure to this trip. These villas lie near Boston Common, where usually many people gather there to spend their leisure time; however, walking along the paths cross the villas, it was so tranquil and peaceful, the sound of cars’ engines, people on streets seemed disappeared and only fresh air and silent stone path remain unchanged. Every house has its own features, the owners have decorated their windows and doors followed their tastes, sometimes, a cluster of colorful flowers and sometimes a classic and delicate bell was hung before a door. Alongside there were trees and little flowers, it seemed like a serenely country-side residences in center Boston. But the reality is that those beautiful houses are too expensive for ordinary people to afford, so they are really in another world~~

Oh, it seems I have been off-topic, OK, back to our trail, our main purpose is to follow the heritage of African Americans and how they challenged the unfairness and struggled for Liberty and Equality.
Bella, Kiya and I made presentations on site 8-12, Smith Court Residences, where used to be black neighborhood, those historic homes are well preserved and provide people a good angle to learn black heritage in Boston. Nowadays, most residences are private and do not open to the public. I introduced 5 Smith Court, 7 Smith Court and 7A Smith Court. 5 Smith Court was constructed in the first decade of 19th century, and it was a three-storey house with reddish-brown clapboard siding. 7 Smith Court was built in early 19th century, a two-storey house with light blue clapboard, and it has been rented to different African Americans for many years, and few residents stayed longer than three years in this property. 7A Smith Court was built in 1799 and it is the only surviving example of the early homes located in Homles Alley because the backyard can still be found today. This three-storey building with light yellow clapboard siding is really a nice place to live in.

This area used to be a black neighborhood, and there was a school in this area—The Phillips School, which only admitted white students until 1855. Black children could not go to the school near their homes; instead, they had to travel far away to a school built for the blacks. “When segregated schools were abolished by legislative act, the Phillips School became one of Boston's first schools with an interracial student body.” (Site3,par.2) It was “usual” that many public places only allowed the whites to enter several decades ago, though this nation was born with the “truth that to be self-evident that all man are created equal” and President Lincoln announced Emancipation Proclamation in early 1862. Even today obvious discrimination has been extinct; racism is still a social issue in this society, of course, it is not easy for some politicians to deal with the truth, but it cannot be ignored. And people should be more optimistic about the progress the blacks have made during the past one hundred years, the cynics should know how far the blacks have travelled and how much they have achieved. A more perfect union cannot be reformed in one century, as long as people hold firmly that all are equal and “believe the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God” (JFK, First Inaugural Address par. 2).

trip to the George Middleton House

Today is Friday, we go to have a trip with our America exploring teacher. My aim is called the George Middleton House. It built in 1797, this is the oldest extant home built by African Americans on Beacon Hill. Its original owners were George Middleton (1735-1815), a liveryman, and Louis Glapion, a hairdresser. Both Middleton and Glapion were members of the African Lodge of Masons founded by black educator Prince Hall. When i arrived there, it is a house which is built by wood, it looks very beautiful. it is my first time to see a building like this, i feel much amazing. it is a unforget tirp in my mind.

The Black Heritage Trail

This week we walked along the Black Heritage Trail starting from the Statue in Boston Common. We first visited Robert Gould Shaw and 54th Regiment Memorial. The 54th Regiment is the first black regiment in the North, and Shaw was a white officer who volunteered for its command. They became famous in a battle to capture the Confederate city, but many of them sacrificed in the hard-fought battle. Also in the battle, there came the first African American who was awarded Congressional Medal of Honor because of his bravery (“Robert”). I think all the black soldiers in the 54th Regiment must be inspired because they were the first black regiment recruited. Maybe their grandfathers and fathers were once slaves, but they represented the American Army! How honored and excited! They fought for the freedom of more slaves in the south.

We also saw churches and schools that did not allow black people to go into or made the black segregated at first. After many abolitionists’ actions, black people have the seat in the church. It is exciting and touching that people gathered and gave speeches to fight for the social justice. There are always pioneers in public filed that make justice and equality come true.

The residence is now the most expensive houses in Boston, and they also have a long history. It is common that a house was built more than a hundred years ago. Walking down the trail, we walked on the rich history of Boston.

The state house of Massachusetts where is the office of the state government which was build two centuries ago and is till being used at present days. It is not only the office of state government but also set as a significant museum reflecting the history of Massachusetts since colonial times. Its spacious marble-floored corridors are lined with the portraits of Massachusetts governors and murals depicting our state's unique heritage. the state house consists of the portraits of Adamses, Hancocks, Reveres, and Winthrops who have a tremendous influence on American history. The two most memorable parts are chambers of Senate and House of Representatives where are royal and magnificent. Surprisingly, visitors are allowed to watch them when they are convening the meeting. Oliver Wendell Holmes called the State House "the hub of the solar system, though time has altered the statement and it is now remembered as "Boston is the hub of the universe". Today, Boston, not the State House, is called "The Hub"

In 1713 the seat of the Massachusetts government was the old State House at the corner of King (now Washington) and State streets. After the American Revolution, state leaders wanted a larger and more elegant home to better reflect the prosperous new republic, spacious enough to accommodate an expanding government.

Field trip- The State House

This week we went to visit the State House in Boston. When I was in China, I studied American Study in Kaplan. At that time, I was taught the Senate and the House of Representative, but I did not know where these officers work and how the State House looks like. This time, I got a chance to have deeper understanding of the american politics. The State House in located near the Park Street and it is not very big. There are four floors in this building. In this building, there are many sculptures of some famous politicians such as John. F. Kennedy. There are also many paintings on the wall which tell the story of the american history. The front door of the State House rarely opens, this is fact surprised me a lot. After the guider explain the reason to us, I understood it is to show how important the State House is. Last time it opened is about ten years ago.
After that, we went to the second floor to the Senate and the House of Representatives. That really impressed me a lot. I can imagine all the senators have a meeting here. It is interesting that there are both fish on the top of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
It is an interesting trip. I think a learned a lot from this trip.

The Massachusetts State House

Last Friday, I visited The Massachusetts State House which was the oldest building on Beacon Hill. Before I went here, I had heard the reason of state leaders decided that they needed a new State House was they wanted a larger and more elegant home that better reflected the prosperous new republic and was spacious enough to accommodate and expanding government.
The new Massachusetts State House was really large and grand. It covered two city blocks. The dome of building was gilded with gold leaf. And it was topped with a lantern a pinecone, symbol of the forests of Massachusetts. It was gorgeous and elegant.
When I entered there, I saw some statues of American first president Washington, the pride of Massachusetts Lincoln and other famous politicians. All of them made huge contributions to America and Massachusetts.
Furthermore, I visited the gallery and some offices in Massachusetts. The tour guide introduced them to us and made me learned a lot about Massachusetts’s political history. And the most impressive place to me was the general court which was the lower house of The Massachusetts Senate. It was very superb. A lot of state general elections were hold there. And I was very excited that the tour guide told us we could watch the elections and meetings there.
Last Sunday was American Independent Day. The whole city was immersed in a festival atmosphere. I was very glad that I could visit The Massachusetts State House and learn a lot of political history of Massachusetts in that time.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Last Friday, we went to Massachusetts State House, I am very excited. The Massachusetts State House, also called Massachusetts Statehouse or the “New” State House, is the state capitol and seat of government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is located at Boston. The building houses the Massachusetts General Court and the offices of the Governor of Massachusetts. When I entered the Massachusetts State House, I think there is a kind of very dignified feelings. We entered a very beautiful staff for we explained some relevant knowledge and introduction. Through her explanation I know some about the history of the Massachusetts State House. But I like the second floor under the dome is decorated by murals painted by artist Edward Brodney. In second floor you can see the original wood dome, which leaked, was covered with copper. The dome was first painted gray and then light yellow before being gilded with gold leaf in 1874. The dome is topped with a pine cone, symbolizing both the importance of Boston’s lumber industry in the early colonial days and of the state of Maine, which was a district of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts when the Bulfinch section of the building was completed. Although the weather is very hot last Friday, but everybody have enthusiasm to visit the Massachusetts State House.

The trip to the state house of Massachusetts

Maybe it is time to lead us have a closely education about the politics in Boston, this Friday, we are able to going to the States house of the Massachusetts. As one of the oldest cities in American history, Boston has remained many incredible old style architecture up to now. It is really another amazing experience for me to see the state house of Massachusetts. The whole building is extreme magnificent outside. The most attractive feature is that the roof is covered by gold.
After getting in the gate, we saw a portrait of the president Abraham Lincoln. He is very tall and have a thoughtful eyesight. There are also some collections about the hero Paul Revere. In another side of the room, it stands some of the statues of the many important governors or politicians in the Boston. People will never forget the contribution of them, such as John Adams and so on. Then ,we came to the Memorial Hall, the painting and some old flags, which can directly show the history of this really historical city to us. Next, we went to stair and visit the House of representative, Senate and Executive. It is a really rare for people to see the meeting room in China.
It is absolutely a unforgettable experience for me to to visit the States House in Massachusetts. I really appreciate the spirit of open and memorial of America. Open is a kind of spirit which express you are not afraid to hide something, just like you can see the workplace of the officer or even governor. Memorial express a spirit that inform us to remember the what we should keep in minds. I feel anxious about lacking some of such spirits maybe affect the development of a nation.

We visited the state house in Park Street last Friday. It was a blazing day, but it cannot affect my deep impression of the magnificent construction.

This Massachusetts State House cornerstone was laid on the Fourth of July, 1795, by Governor Sam Adams and Paul Revere, who is the Grand Master of the Masons. This building includes the Doric Hall, Nurses Hall and the Senate Chamber……

The most gorgeous place I think is the Senate Chamber, which has a large hall contain a number of seats. The Senate Chamber was originally used by the Representatives and prior to 1895, that the reason why it called the Senate Reception Room. There are forty state senators who meet in this chamber.

By the way, the current State Chamber is directly under the golden dome. At the base of its inverted rim are three hundred and sixty pieces of carved wood, it looks really lordliness.
