Massachusetts State House

The State House is sacred and solemn, honoring all people who made the independence of America, and American Dream come true. Like in many other historical attractions, individual freedom is reflected in Doric Hall. The statue of George Washington is erected in the hall. His image is a scholar, not a general that he used to be. This is because a general looks much more like an emperor, a dictator, and this is a threat to people’s freedom and legal rights. John Adams said “A government of laws, and not of men.” Words in the flag read “A Flag of the Republic Forever. Of an Empire Never. ” These all show that freedom is the cornerstone of American life.

Reading founding father’s words can help understand basic American values. John Adams’ words “It is my destiny to dig treasures with my own fingers. Nobody will lend me or send me a pickax” illustrates self-reliance and hard work. This belief has rooted in Americans’ hearts for several hundred years. No wonder Americans are so independent. It is the cultural identity, and is what makes them Americans.

I feel honored to visit the room for House of Representatives, Senate, and Executive. I saw the place where congressmen and congresswomen had discussion, and voted for legislation. I want to listen to the session if I have chance.
The State House also honors the women who fought for women’s rights and advancement. Not for their effort, women today may still suffer from lack of education, and low social status. After generations, there are many excellent women active in public arena. The President of Senate in Massachusetts is also a woman. I think we young girls should seize chances and work hard to prove ourselves, and help further improve the working conditions of women. Today women still get less pay for the same job than men, and many firms prefer employing men than women.
