The Freedom Trail

The Freedom Trail

Serena

I always thought Boston was just a modern city, because it was the fashionable and commercial center of Massachusetts. But through the freedom trail last Friday, it gave me a new impression. Boston was also a historic city.
We started from the Boston Common in which was the starting point of the freedom trail. It was the oldest public park in the United States. Boston Common's history goes back as far as 1634, when the area was designated a common pasture. It was also used for military purposes and for public hangings. The gallows were removed in 1817 and from 1830 on the grazing of cattle was forbidden. Ever since, the Boston common mainly served as a public park for recreational purposes. It was a pastoral in Boston Common English style with a very open character and informal layout. In Boston common, I saw some lovely pigeons were finding food in the green grass and some sea gull were flying in blue sky. All of those showed the peaceful summer landscape.
And another memorable place was King’s Chapel and King’s Chapel Burying Ground in which I did the presentation. King’s Chapel was the first non-Puritan church in the United States, and the Burying Ground was Boston’s first and only burying place for almost 30 years. In fact, it was as old as Boston itself. It was the final resting place for many colonists.
After visiting these historic landmarks of freedom trail in Boston, I learned its special history. I enjoyed this amazing trip and really loved the beautiful city.
